Liquid Gold - Live Beneficial Bacteria Tank Starter

Introducing our Liquid Gold Tank Starter! Every aquarist knows that the best way to cycle a new tank is by getting beneficial bacteria from an existing, fully cycled and established system. Unlike the "shelf stable" bacteria you can buy from the store, that is dormant, our Liquid Gold bacteria is alive and hungry! Every weekend we crack open one of our canister filters from our personal tanks and harvest some of the beneficial bacteria, ensuring you not only get a fresh, quality product, but you get a dense and active start to your new favorite hobby!

What size do I need?

•  4 Oz - Up to 10 Gallons
•  8 Oz - Up to 20 Gallons
• 16 Oz - Up to 40 Gallons

How to use Liquid Gold

• Pour directly into tank with filter on 
• (optional) Pour directly over filter sponges or squeeze filter sponge into starter
• Wait for water to clear
• That's it...

How long until I can add fish? 

• If you are impatient like me : as soon as the water is clear! HOWEVER.... It is recommended to ALSO do daily water changes of 25% or more, or add Seachem Stability everyday for the first week. I don't like to waste water, and time, so I use Seachem Stability.

• If you have the time : once the tank clears, add a small amount of fish food to the tank so the bacteria has something to eat. Monitor, test daily and wait for the nitrite spike... usually within a week when using this product. Then your tank is ready!

Live Culture Shipping Schedule and Temperature Policy

We ship out Monday-Wednesday only to ensure our live cultures arrive fresh! Orders placed after 12:00pm PST Wednesday will be shipped out the following Monday.

Note: We currently only ship to the U.S. and do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii at this time.

To keep your live cultures safe in transit, Puffer Pantry ships only when temperatures support a healthy arrival.

We do not ship when:  

- Origin or destination temperatures are below 35°F  

- Origin or destination temperatures are above 95°F

If temperatures fall outside this range, your order will be held until conditions improve.
